We at the Alliance for Reparations, Reconciliation, and Truth (ARRT) stand in unwavering solidarity with our immigrant loved ones. Together, as Black, Brown, Latine, and AAPI communities, we share not only a rich history of cultural exchange and mutual respect but also a unified struggle against systemic oppression. This syncretism, evident in our families, food, music, fashion, and art, is even reflected in the name of our beloved state, California. We are stronger together, and our liberation is deeply intertwined. None of us are free until all of us are free.
We strongly believe in protecting the rights of every human being, regardless of immigration status. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and access to due process. This is not just about policy changes; this is about humanity. Families are torn apart, and community members are beaten, disappeared, censored, and intimidated through militarized force, and we must collectively say no. No one should live in fear of exercising their right to free speech or the pursuit of a better life. We believe that every Californian, whether native or immigrant, deserves protection from the harms of systemic racism and is entitled to repairs for such harm.
We recognize that the roots of state violence run deep, dating back to the atrocities of slavery in America and throughout the Diaspora. These systems of control have never disappeared; instead, they have evolved. The tools and tactics of oppression that were originally designed to enslave, dehumanize, and extract wealth from Black people are now being modernized to target immigrant communities. The paradigm of oppression is unmistakable.
Practices such as sharecropping and the exploitation of undocumented farm workers, to ICE raids, mass incarceration, and militarized policing and surveillance are weapons of mass destruction that will surely evolve and be repurposed, refined, and used against us all. Families are being torn apart, masked federal agents are abducting people without due process, journalists are being censored, and unarmed Black people are being murdered by police and vigilantes. Peaceful protests encounter violence, and Trump and his fascist regime blatantly disregard the Constitutional rights of the people. This modern overreach of power reflects a long legacy of faux white supremacy that harms us all.
Anti-Black racism, as weaponized historically, has sought to pit us against each other. This manufactured division distracts from the real issues at hand. Immigrants are not taking opportunities away from any Americans, whether Black or white.
The truth is clear: exploitative billionaires and corporations block our pathways to equity, inclusion, opportunity, and progress. We believe in the power of unity to drive transformative change. When we heal our communities and stand together, we become an unstoppable force against these obstacles.
